Assignment 18A
My product
can be sold to both individuals and corporations, and while I think
highlighting the importance of being able to sell to corporations as a way for
them to work towards making their business more sustainable, for this assignment
I have chosen to focus on an individual.
My product
was inspired by my friend’s brother who is currently fifteen years old, and is
a freshman in high school. He is unable to drive because he just got his leaner’s
permit but he loves to cruise around on his bike. He volunteers weekly at the
local Habitat for Humanity and works very closely in organizations at his
school including several environmentally conscious ones. He spends most of his
time outdoors whether it be riding his bike, playing tennis, or just exploring
new places around the state of Texas. He is one of the most independent people
you will ever meet, and on top of that one of the smartest people I have ever
seen, while he is only fifteen he has the mental ability of someone in college
already.
The reason he inspired a carrying
case for a reusable straw is because of the amount of reusable straws he has
either lost or has forgotten at home. Her brother has what is referred to as
high-functioning Autism, and uses straws to drink everything. While this is not
due to a physical disability, straws allow for some relief mentally at restaurants
and other places. The reason he needs some relief mentally is that due to his
autism he can become very overwhelmed in places like restaurants that tend to
be loud and filled with so many people he does not know. Therefore, he relies
of straws to be a sort of safe haven from the noise and lights that restaurants
tend to have. He currently uses a reusable silicone straw that has a small
cloth bag that he uses to carry it around. However, since he does not really
have a secure carrying case he often leaves his straw at home. Therefore, I was
inspired to start working on a prototype for a phone case that would be able to
carry your straw.

What do I have in common with him?
-
Like him I am extremely environmentally conscious
and use straws as sort of a relief. When I was in high school, I also gave the
majority of my time to making sure that I was using my motivation to make our
earth just that much better. On the surface we are very similar because I also
played tennis in high school, and I also traveled the great state of Texas
going from forest to forest trying to see everything. On a more personal level,
we are both motivated by creating an earth for our future generations to thrive
on.
Charles, that is a very interesting product. Don’t know how convenient or useful I may be to majority of people, but it’s worth a shot! My dad tried to stop smoking cigarettes a couple year ago and had to use a straw whenever he drank something so that his mind thinks it is a cigarette. It may be useful to him!
ReplyDelete1.) Overall post is a great read. It is hard in this class to read every post with complete focus but I didn't have a problem with this one.
ReplyDelete2.) Specifically I like how you are creating something that is great for the world and you were inspired by an autistic child. I think it is a good business with a strong backbone.
3.) I think this post required a picture and I dont see one here, that is the only thing I would change.
Hey CJ, I never knew that some people with autism use the same straws as some sort of mental relief making them feel at home in new environments. Most of your customers have a high likelihood of being environmentally conscious which will get them into a product like this. The small fee of parting with their own phone cases to have a holder for their straws are a small price to pay for helping the environment.
